Thanks for the quick responses to the first survey! Based on the results, we are in good shape to move forward with reopening for in-person lessons.🎉
What's next you ask? Take a quick look at the information below and then answer the survey at the bottom of the article. We need everyone to respond - it's how we'll know what to tell your students. It will close Friday, May 21st, at 11:45PM. The quicker you respond, the quicker we can get started on notifying your students.
How We're Doing Things (Based on Executive Order
We're opening July 12th, so if you choose one of the options for teaching from VMS (explained below), we'll see you starting that week! To give the students some flexibility, we are allowing them to choose which of the last three weeks of July they would like to return. That means they might not all be there the first week you're back, but things should settle down by the beginning of August.
We are expecting at least one more Executive Order before we open, so the following things may change based on the updated guidance from the Governor, CDC, and NCDHHS. For now this is how we are approaching on-site lessons (it's basically the same precautions you are seeing everywhere else):
- Masks are required - based on the guidance in Executive Order 215 and the fact that we are working with kids, we will continue to require masks.
(likely to be lifted if case count remains stable and 2/3 of adults have received one shot, per Governor Cooper)
- Maintain 6+ feet of social distancing (likely to be lifted June 1st, per Governor Cooper)
- Stay home if you feel sick, have symptoms, came in contact with someone that has been diagnosed with COVID-19, etc.
- Continue to use email, text, phone to communicate with the office. I know everyone is going to want to catch up after such a long year, but we're trying to minimize any unnecessary interactions for now.
- Parents will be asked to drop off and pick up their kids instead of waiting for them inside.
- There will be specific doors for entering and exiting and signs inside to help with the flow of people.
- Water fountains are going to be "out of service," but the water cooler will still work.
A Few Options Forward
We get that everyone is going to feel differently about returning, so we came up with a few different options to choose from.
Return to VMS - Hybrid - If you're ready to get back to teaching in-person lessons and can handle teaching online lessons for the students that still want to do that, this is the best option for you. To keep the office from getting overwhelmed, we need you to teach the online lessons from your studio at VMS. That means you'll need to bring a device with you. We checked the network capacity and everything should be good to go on our side. (return the week of July 12th)
Return to VMS - Traditional - If you're ready to get back to teaching in-person lessons, but you don't want to teach online lessons, this is your option. With this option, there may be a situation where your student wants to continue online lessons and you aren't offering them. If that happens, we will offer them the option to find an instructor that teaches online. Hopefully this doesn't happen often though.🤞 (return the week of July 12th)
Stay Home - Online - If you aren't ready to come back and you want to continue teaching online only like we've been doing for the past year, we've got you covered. Like the "Return to VMS - Traditional" option, we may run into an issue where the student wants to return to in-person lessons. In that case, we will offer the student the option to switch to an instructor that offers in-person lessons. Again, we really hope this doesn't happen often, but we want to let you know how we're handling them if it does.
Now that you have some more info about how we're approaching things, complete the survey at the bottom of this article to let us know how you want to proceed. As soon as we get your response, we'll get to work on reaching out to your students! [survey is closed]
We're working on notifying everyone's students and getting the schedules updated.
If you have questions or comments, just let us know. (quick reminder that it shouldn't be about your medical situation or decision about the vaccine)
If I choose to stay home and teach online initially, when will I be able to change my decision?
The beginning of August.
